St. John Regis - is patron of Medical
Socia
l Workers, he was Jesuit who cared for the poor
and imprisoned. Feast day June 16.
St. Basil The Great - 4th century, founder
of
the first monastery in Asia Minor. He is known
for his care of the sick and poor He founded
the
hospital at Caesarea. His Feast day is June 14.

her husband she devoted the rest of
her like to helping the sick,orphaned
and poor. She is one of the patrons
of nursing and the sick. Feast day
November 17.

mothers. He was a nice guy, cared for his

Peregrine Lazios - patron of cancer
patients because he was miraculously
cured of foot cancer after a vision.

Rene Goupi - Lay Jesuit who worked with
the Huron Indians (1640), first North
American martyr. Patron of
anesthesiology because of the trials he
was put though by the Iroquois and able
to over come by his faith. Feast day
October 19.

Camillus de Lellis- A 17th century
Italian
soldier, who was denied entry into the
Franciscan
Capuchin order because of a diseased leg.
He
worked as a nurse and was director of
St.
Giacomo Hospital in Rome. He founded
the
Camillians ( Ministers of the Sick) Patron
of
nurses and nursing groups by Pope Pius XI.
He
is also patron of the sick and hospital
workers.
Feast day July 14.
John of God:- Patron of Nurses and
hospital
workers because he helped and card for the
sick.
He started the Order of Brothers
Hospitalers. His
Feast day is March 8.
Margaret of Cortona - Patron of
midwives,
lived in the 1200's, earned a living as a
midwife
before becoming a Franciscan tertiary and
caring
for the sick and the poor. Feast day
February 22.
Raymond of Penafor - Patron of
medical
records, who lived from 1175 to 1275. He
taught
philosophy, studied law, received a
Doctorate,
became a Dominican, systematized and
codified
canon law, compiled Summa de poenitentia
and is
probably patron on Medical record
librarians and
medical records because of his ability to
organize
Feast day, January 7.

Sts.Cosmas and Damian - were
Arabian
twins brothers who became Syrian
physicians
and pharmacists. They always offered
their
services free of charge. They are patrons
of
physicians and pharmacistd. Feast Day
Sept. 26
St. Pantaleon - he was the personal
doctor t
o Emperor Maximian, but later became a
physician to the poor and needy after
a
reconversion. Feast day July 27.
St.Agatha - From a wealthy Italian
family in
the third century, she is one of the
patrons of
nurses and invoked against breast cancer.
Feast
day is February 5.
Medical Saints have continued their
patronage's through out the ages,
unlike
many other groups of saints. The above
