The Birds Battle for Day and Night
A number of Native American groups have a story that pits the day time animals against those
animals that live after dark. They bird people that are diurnal either battle or gamble for daylight,
as the story usually takes place when night will not turn into daylight, as Coyote, as usual, has done
something stupid and lost daylight. As the battle progresses ( or the gambling) the daylight animal
eventually win, bringing back daytime and night, as they should be.
The linocut, The Birds battle for Daylight, is printed in an edition of 28.
